Recount - Just another damagemeter?

Rating: ★★★★☆

I’ve tried several damagemeters in my time. Swstats, DamageMeters, Recap and probably a few more I’ve forgotten about. Lately, I’ve replaced them all with an addon called Recount. It has mostly the same functions as the others, but I find the presentation of information to be superb. I’ll start off by highlighting one of the downsides of the addon that I’ve found. It doesn’t have any options for exporting the data to a html file or to a log file so that it can be presented on a website. This is a feature that might be added, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Realtime

Recount reads your combat log and presents it in a manner that most people are able to understand. You can get a list of the top damage dealers in your group or party, or a list of the top DPS’ers. If you want to see who is handing out the most healing,  or who keeps those Heals Over Time up the most. You can get other useful information also. Who has been breaking crowd control and how many times, who has been dispelling the most or who died the most. A lot of this information can be useful for seeing who needs to improve their performance.

Damage Done

The addon really shines with it’s graphical data views though. You can get graphs that show the damage of a group or raid second for second and you can pick out a couple of players to see how they perform against each other through a fight. There’s also a realtime window for watching information on the fly. Want to see how your dps goes all the time during a fight, this is your addon.

Comparison

The addon has more to offer, though. You can get in-depth information on every player that the addon picks up. You can see information about what your actual crit percent has been, how often you miss, and also a list of all the skills and spells you have used and detailed information about them. You can see how often your spells are resisted with partial resists and all. If you have a feeling that one of your raiders are not playing their class the right way, you can easily see what skills or spells they have been spamming, and point out if they are actually using the wrong ones.

Detailed

You are able to set the range for which the addon picks up information all the way up to 200 yards, so that you can get fairly accurate information. As with all damage meters, it’s very important that the people looking over the information you get from it knows the game well, as you can get fooled easily by what you see. A mage that looks to be doing crap damage in a fight, might actually have been busy sheeping and resheeping, and would have done a lot better if he was focusing on spamming damage spells all the time. Damage meters can be a great tool in the right hands. Use them with caution, but I recommend most people to use them. They will often give you a good hint at your performance compared to others.

Recount was originally made by Cryect but is now being preserved and updated by Elsia. You can find the addon at http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/10598/
