Earning money in World of Warcraft has become a lot easier in recent patches with the daily quests and all. Some people rely on the auction house for making money still, though, and there are some nice wow addons out there that will help you earn money a lot easier. Auctioneer has been one of the most popular addons in the Blizzard community since the first versions came out, but there is an alternative to it, one that I like more personally, called Wowecon. Read on to be enlightened.
Unlike Auctioneer, which is based on prices gathered from scanning the auction house, Wowecon is based on actual sale prices gotten from people who use the addon. It gets it’s numbers from sales recorded through the mailbox, which means the numbers come from actual sales, not prices on the AH which we all know are not always accurate. You have to use a small program to download the latest data from Wowecon whenever you want your prices updated, but this doesn’t take long.
The addon gives you tooltips with prices for equipment, inventory, linked items, tradeskills, herb radar and more. The tooltips also contain enchanting info if you want it, and it has over a million disenchants recorded to make sure the info you get is as accurate as possible. Wowecon claims to have over 3 million item sales recorded on top of that, but I think those numbers are a bit old, and probably a lot higher now. One of the neat things with it is that it records data for each server, so when you install the addon, you get to pick your server, and if it has data on it, the prices you see in game will reflect the sales on the server you are on. If it doesn’t have the data on a particular item, it will show global prices.
You’ll get an in-game browser where you can search for items and prices, and you can change a few settings for how you view things in the browser. There’s a premium version of the addon you can subscribe to which gives quite a bit more functionality. It can be used to setup automatic purchase on a specific item within a given price range, to buy out good deals, and it can be set to send an alert to you about a particularly good deal. Alerts can be sent to your e-mail or to your cell phone via SMS. You can have watch-lists for any number of items, and set alerts for them all. All your sales and purchases are recorded, and you can get a professional accounting-style web-page where you can see all your transactions and other useful info.
I’ve only used the free addon myself so far, but I’ve considered trying out the premium feature a few times especially for the scanning and automatic bidding. I like the fact that Wowecon gives me fairly spot on prices, and I don’t have to go scan AH a few times a day just to get so-so prices. I’d recommend people at least have a look at it. I’m sure auctioneer can offer a lot of things Wowecon can’t, but I want “the right price” and Wowecon gives me that. You can find Wowecon at:
